About Us

Located in South Central Kentucky on beautiful Lake Cumberland, the Pulaski County School System provides quality comprehensive education to about 7,500 students in eight elementary, two middle, two high schools, an early education center, an alternative education school, and a day treatment center. We also serve the community with childcare, full-day preschool, and strong adult education programs through which we offer educational and cultural opportunities to hundreds of adults and children under five. Here are some of the things we are most proud of:
ACADEMICS All Pulaski County Schools are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and are committed to educational excellence. We are home to award winning teachers as well as state and nationally recognized programs in environmental education, early reading, and technology. Our students receive numerous scholarships each year to some of the nation’s most prestigious universities.
EARLY EDUCATION We believe that a strong foundation is necessary for future success. Our early education efforts begin with our youngest community members at home and continue through our intermediate grades. Our early reading programs have caused national experts to take notice of how we are preparing our children for their educational journey.
OPPORTUNITIES We offer opportunities for our students and community that develop interests and enrich lives. Gifted, senior citizen, after school, exceptional education, alternative and school-to-work programs are a few examples of our commitment to providing opportunities for all interests.
CHARACTER We believe that some of the most important lessons in life go beyond academics. By modeling and teaching positive character traits, we are preparing our students to be productive, contributing members of our community.
TECHNOLOGY Every classroom in every school is networked for e-mail, Internet, and a wealth of other technological capabilities. Our technology programs provide students the opportunity to earn advanced technology certifications and our staff is frequently invited to showcase our technology programs at state and national conferences. We boast national awards for our efforts in making our students some of the most technologically literate in the state.
STUDENT SERVICES We are committed to serving the needs of our children and families outside the classroom. We provide a wide range of physical and mental health services as well as assistance for any barrier our children may face. We have also taken an aggressive approach to ensuring a safe school environment for students and staff through professional training, clear expectations, and preventive services.
RESOURCES With more than a $45 million dollar budget, we provide all our students with multiple programs, instructional supplies, modern facilities, transportation, food services, and state of the art athletic facilities. We are the largest employer in the county with over 550 professional educators providing and 600 additional employees keeping our buildings clean, comfortable, and well maintained; our buses safe and dependable; and our food services inviting and nutritious. We provide these resources at one of the lowest tax rates in the area.
INVOLVEMENT We believe in the power of parent and community involvement and feel it is an essential part of an effective educational program. As a model for the state, our schools boast strong parent teacher associations, organized volunteer programs, and dedicated individuals who have received multiple honors for their involvement in the lives of children.
