PULASKI COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION
REGULAR MEETING: April 12, 2005

Allen Larkin was sworn in as the new Board Member.

I. ADOPT AGENDA: Agenda adopted as presented

II. RECOGNITION

  1. GOOD CHARACTER SALUTES: Recognized Initiative recipients, student Mackey Gaskin from Southwestern High School and adult recipient Becky Smith from Oak Hill Elementary.
  2. PRISM AWARDS: Recognized Elementary level PRISM recipients, Kelly Lovell and Angela Pruyear both from Burnside Elementary; Middle School level recipient Glynnis Clayton from Northern Middle and Administrative level recipient Amy Polston from Nancy Elementary.
  3. ASAP – ADVANCING STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT TO PROFICIENCY: Board honored at the 2005 KSBA Conference. ASAP was created to help boards focus on student achievement and board actions that impact classroom learning.

III. COMMUNICATIONS/REPORTS

  2. STUDENT DROP-OUT REPORT: 2.6%
  3. GIFTED PROGRAM SELF-STUDY 2004-2005: Reported to Board
  4. SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT: Superintendent Tim Eaton announced graduation dates as follows: Pulaski Central on May 20th at 10:00 am at the Center for Rural Development, Southwestern High School on May 22nd at 2:00 pm, Pulaski County High School on May 23rd at 6:30 pm.; discussed upcoming CATS testing the week of April 18th; and discussed ongoing vocational education efforts.

IV. ACTION ITEMS APPROVED WITH DISCUSSION

  1. TREASURER’S REPORT, AUTHORIZE PAYMENT OF BILLS: Approved
  2. MINUTES MARCH 8, 2005: Approved
  3. CREATE/AMEND/ABOLISH PERSONNEL POSITIONS: Approved the creation of 2 district wide positions: Special Education Liaison and Speech Teacher.
  4. 2004-2005 AMENDED SCHOOL CALENDAR: Approved
  5. OAK HILL ELEMENTARY FOUR CLASSROOM ADDITION: Approved

  2. ISSUANCE APPROVAL 05-06 EMERGENCY CERTIFICATES: Approved
  3. ADDENDUM APPROVED LOCAL VENDORS LIST: Added SXL Sound Company, Joe Kirkpatrick to the approved vendors list.
  4. DECLARE SURPLUS PROPERTY: Declared assorted lot of old classroom furniture at Nancy Elementary, old ladder jack at PCHS and assorted technology equipment as surplus property.
  5. OUT OF STATE TRIP REQUEST: Approved request for NMS Band spring trip to Dollywood and Knoxville, TN.
  6. EARLY GRADUATION REQUESTS PULASKI CENTRAL: Approved

VI. NANCY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COUNCIL REPORT/DISCUSSION ON STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT WITH PULASKI COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION: Final council board discussion on student achievement.
