I. Recognition

  1. PRISM Recipients: Recognized Administrative recipient, Jeff Nash, High School level recipient, Karen Cook from Southwestern High School, Middle School level recipient, Jaclyn Richardson from Northern Middle and Elementary level recipient, Dana Etherington from Shopville Elementary.
     

II Action Items with Discussion

  1. Accept 2008 Financial Audit: Approved
  2. Treasurer’s Report/Authorize Payment of Bills: Approved
  3. Create/Amend/Abolish Personnel Positions: Created a custodial position for the Central Office East Annex Building.
  4. Working Budget 2008-2009: Approved, allowing a 2% contingency of General Fund monies.
  5. Accept SFCC, 2009 KETS Offer of Assistance: Approved
  6. Non-Resident Student Contracts: Approved three-year non-resident student contracts with Monticello Independent Schools, Clinton, Lincoln, Casey, Wayne, McCreary, Rockcastle, Russell and Laurel counties. Also approved one-year terms with Somerset Independent and Science Hill Independent Schools.
  7. Woodstock Elementary BG-3 Cost Opinion and Contract Documents for Bidding, and Authorize the Superintendent to Advertise for Bids Pending the Approval of KDE: Approved
  8. Use of Facility Request: Approved use of PCHS gym by AB’s Studio One for a dance competition on January 17, 2009 pending their submission of liability and sports medical coverage.
     

III. Action Items Approved by Consent

  1. Minutes, November 11, 2008: Approved
  2. School Photography Vendors 2009-2010: Approved Lifetouch of Knoxville and Lifetouch of Bardstown.
  3. Board Policy and Procedure Amendments: Approved
  4. Student Random Drug Testing Contract: Approved

IV. Communications and Reports

  1. Personnel Actions, Certified, Classified, Approved Volunteers: Approved
  2. Superintendent’s Report/Remarks: Superintendent Eaton provided an update on budget cut impacts and issues. Mr. Eaton also noted he was pleased with the governor’s proposal to preserve SEEK funding.
  3. Mr. Eaton and the board expressed their appreciation to Marlene Haney, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction and to Lucille Hudson, Food Service Director for their years of service, as they retire effective January 1, 2009.
  4. Keri Schelling from KSBA presented board member Mrs. Betty Richards with a plaque of KSBA’s appreciation for her twenty years of school board service.
  5. Mr. Eaton and staff also presented Mrs. Richards and Mr. Allen Larkin, as they will not be returning members, with plaques of appreciation honoring them for their years of dedicated service to the students of Pulaski County Schools. Mrs. Richards retired as a thirty-year teacher then served as board member for twenty consecutive years. Mr. Larkin served two terms from 1997 to 2000 and from April 12, 2005 to December 2008.
