I. Action Items
- Oath of Office: Board Attorney Larry Bryson administered the
Constitutional and Statutory Oaths of Office to newly elected member,
Samantha Stevens and to incumbent member Phillip Wilson. Newly elected
member, Olivia Minton was duly sworn and administered the oaths of office by
Kentucky Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable Daniel J. Venters on December
5, 2008.
- Organization of the Board
- Elect Chairperson: Phillip Wilson elected as Chairperson
- Elect Vice Chairperson: Bill White elected as Vice-Chair.
- Set Date/Time of Regular Monthly Meetings - 2009-January 2010: Board
meetings set for the first Tuesday following the second Monday of each
month at 5:00 in the Central Office Boardroom.
II. Recognition
- PRISM Recipients: Recognized Middle School level recipient, Donna
Collins from Northern Middle and High School level recipient, Boyd Randolph
from Southwestern High School.
- Board Appreciation: Gifts of gratitude and words of
appreciation were presented by school principals and central office
employees. Northern Middle School students representing Principal Angela
Murphy’s Advisory Council presented individual gifts that were designed and
molded from clay by each student along with an explanation of what each gift
represented.
III. Communications and Reports
- Certified/Classified Personnel Actions: Reported to Board
- Superintendent’s Report: Superintendent Eaton welcomed Southern Elementary Principal, Keith Patrick back to the district from active duty in Afghanistan. Legislation—state assessment and current year budget short falls are at the top of the list for general session. Eaton congratulated Mr. Norris (principal) and Shopville Elementary as they have been notified by a KDE achievement gap team of an on-site visit to see how they have met criteria to overcome achievement gap issues. Superintendent Eaton commented on range maps of data analysis from the Center for Educational Research in Appalachia of primary, middle, high schools, and overall scores from CATS assessment of what our accountability index is according to the number of free/reduced lunches. Assistant Superintendent Steve Butcher reported on the progress of the Southwestern High School addition and cafeteria expansion with pre-bid for January 28th and bid opening for February 12th.
