Department Information
Operations is a major division under the direction of Steve Butcher that is the umbrella for several vital subgroups of non-instructional programs. The programs include Buildings and Grounds, Maintenance, Food Service, Schoolworks (Acquisition), Woodworking, the Energy Program, Indoor Air Quality and Safety and Security.
Three support personnel are in this department incouding Executive Secretary Ms. Libby Erp, Receptionist Ms. Pamela Flynn, and Ms. Rena Kay Buchanan who oversees the proper storage of records.
Bill Phelps heads the maintenance division. Phelps employs a varied background to give guidance and direction to a crew of experienced maintenance men. All of our employees are specialists who cross-train into another area of expertise so that they will be as effective as possible in the field. Phillip Harris specializes in Waste Water Treatment Plant operation; Mark Jones is expert in concrete, masonry and in general maintenance; Walter Daulton is a first rate carpenter; Jim Lay is a versatile person who deals with general maintenance activities; Marty Hunt and David Mayfield are both HVAC experts; and Maurice Stringer is a multi-specialist. Ronnie Inabnitt fills a critical role in coordinating the activities of our maintenance crews and makes things happen in logical sequence. Inabnitt is also an electrical whiz. Jason Eaton is a communications specialist who is becoming a double specialist with emphasis in Waste Water Treatment Plants and general maintenance. Doug Phelps serves as a licensed plumber and assists in general maintenance. Floyd Warren and Vertrees Norfleet keep our grounds neat and well groomedand Jeff Byrd and Jamie Overby excel in general maintenance.
Shelley Todd of School Works is our Central Store Manager. She does line item and catalog bids to ensure the best value for the money that is spent in the district. There are over 500 items in School Works and it is her responsibility to keep items ordered, stocked and available.
Johnny Phelps works in School Works and is responsible for deliveries all over the district. He also orders all the custodial supplies for the district. Phelps’s schedule of delivery keeps all our district buildings supplied on a timely basis.
Mardell Burke works 28-30 hours a week in Food Service. She does accounts payable, balances deposits by school, keeps Food Service applications up to date, and performs several other secretarial duties Mrs. Lucille Hudson, whose title is Food Service Coordinator, and Mrs. Linda Mardis, administer the Food Service Program.
Woodworking, is comprised of Billy Bullock and Danny Jasper. Their skills allow them to build everything from shelving to cabinetry, from furniture to outbuildings.
Mr. B.J. Lawson is the sole member of the Energy Program. Mr. Lawson recently lead the district to the reception of the Founder’s Trophy, which commemorates the attainment of the one million-dollar mark in savings over the last four years. Mr. Lawson’s duties have been expanded to take advantage of his intimate knowledge of all our facilities. He also conducts district-wide custodial inspections. Our goal is to raise all our facilities and grounds to the same high district standard in the areas of cleanliness and appearance.
