Pulaski County School System Energy
Program Saving Money for Children

The Pulaski County School System has recorded significant energy dollar savings since the implementation of the district-wide energy program. The Pulaski County System has achieved over $1 million dollars in cost avoidance.

Energy costs are the second largest line item in any school district’s budget so savings in this area can result in significant savings for the taxpaying community. Pulaski County Schools success in energy conservation has been noted by the Kentucky Society of School Plant Managers who asked Superintendent Tim Eaton and the energy program personnel to present at their annual conference.

BJ Lawson serves as the district’s energy manager in the Operations Department under Director Ed Cook. Lawson is responsible for developing and monitoring the program under board level policy and the Superintendent’s guidelines for the purpose of transferring dollars from the utility budget into the instructional budget. Lawson performs regular “walk-through” audits of all the district’s facilities to insure operating efficiency, and optimum compliance with the district’s energy policy.

“We are extremely pleased with the level of commitment that the administration, professional staff, and everyone involved in the Pulaski County School System has shown to achieve this level of savings. The money that the district has saved constitutes a significant dollar figure and is a credit to the efforts of the district,” said William Spears, President of Energy Education, Inc.

Pulaski County began its energy conservation program in partnership with Energy Education in which a structured system that modifies energy consumption was put into place throughout the district. Sophisticated software allows he district to track its energy use, analyze bills, and document energy savings.
