Food Service

Pulaski County School System cafeteria personnel Teresa Hannah, Missy Hatfield, and Diane Alton prepare fruit and vegetables for the summer feeding program. As part of an outreach effort to help ensure children have nutritious meals, the Pulaski County School System Food Service Department provided free meals to thousands of children at camps, bible schools, and other youth events throughout the summer.
School meals in the Pulaski County School System focus on nutritious and varied selections that promote proper diet at the earliest levels. At all levels, students have a choice of entrees and middle and high schools offer full salad bars. About 80% of Pulaski County's students participate in the lunch program and about 42% participate in the breakfast program (compared with 28% nation-wide). All Pulaski County Schools serve breakfast and lunch daily. Schools are not required to offer breakfast and many children across the state and nation are not offered this crucial service. In addition, all preschool and kindergarten students receive a daily snack and students involved in after school academic programs also receive a free snack.
Community members are invited to visit Pulaski County Schools for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is .50 for students and $1.75 for adults. Lunch is $1.50 for elementary students, $2.00 for middle/high school students, and $3.00 for adults. Students may be eligible to receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch prices.
