NMS State Champs - VEX Robotics

Northern Middle School VEX Robotics team students secured a 1st place win at the VEX Middle School Division State Robotics Competition in Elizabethtown, KY, this past weekend. Students competed with and against the best 30 teams out of the roughly 150 robotics program across the state of Kentucky. The action-packed day required middle students to execute the 2017-2018 VEX Robotics Competition game, In the Zone, which is played by stacking cones on goals, by scoring cones on mobile goals in goal zones, by having the highest stacks, and by parking robots. As state tournament champions, the team qualified for a position to compete in the VEX Robotics World Championship.  read more about NMS State Champs - VEX Robotics

Burnside Elementary Receives National Recognition for Commitment to Empowering Students

Burnside Elementary School announced today that it has been recognized as a Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished School for providing broad access to transformative learning opportunities for students through PLTW LaunchTM. It is one of just 97 elementary schools across the U.S. to receive this honor.PLTW is a nonprofit organization that serves millions of K-12 students and teachers in over 10,500 schools across the U.S. “It truly an honor to receive this recognition for our school, our program and our PLTW teacher, Mrs. Amanda Cox. She has dedicated her time, energy and skills to implementing the PLTW program with fidelity. Our students love her class and enjoy learning. This has improved not only their academic skills but their ability to reason and solve everyday world problems. The Kentucky Commissioner of Education is seeking applicants to be considered for appointment to the Pulaski County Board of Education. You are invited to nominate yourself or someone you know who is qualified to serve on the Pulaski County Board of Education representing, Educational Division #3 for the Pulaski County School System. This vacancy was created by board member resignation. Under the provisions of KRS 160.190 (2), this appointment is effective until the end of the elected term of 2018. Pulaski County Gifted 8th Grade Students Participate in CREATE: Music STEM Camp

An appreciation toward science and technology was gained from a group of gifted and talented eighth graders from across Pulaski County School District. The forum is scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2017, in the Central Office Boardroom of the Pulaski County Board of Education, located at 501 East University Drive. The Kentucky Educational Development Corporation (KEDC) honors Mr. Steve Butcher, Superintendent of Pulaski County Schools as 2018 KEDC Superintendent of the Year. To say that Mr. Steve Butcher has made a positive impact on Pulaski County Schools would be an understatement. Under the leadership of Mr. Butcher, the Pulaski County School System has achieved the designation of Distinguished District six years running and boasts a 100% college/career rate and a 97.8% graduation rate validating that educational programs are focused on results.   read more about Superintendent Steve Butcher Honored for Outstanding Achievement

On Thursday, September 28th members of Pulaski County High School’s FBLA chapter teamed up with the JROTC chapter to host a breakfast for service personnel. The breakfast was held in honor of all the hard work and sacrifices that the service personnel make on a daily basis to ensure that our community is safe and our many freedoms can be enjoyed. Overall, 56 service personnel attended the breakfast. FBLA members helped serve refreshments, emptied trays, cleaned tables and gave each attendee a Survival Kit that showed Pulaski County’s appreciation.  read more about Serving Those that Serve You

Each spring, the Ayn Rand Institute holds an essay contest inviting students across the world to write thought-provoking essays in response to some of the late author’s novels. For several years now, Honors English II Students at Southwestern High School have been reading one of Ayn Rand’s most famous novels, Anthem, which has provided students with multiple opportunities for in-depth and insightful discussions and assignments in subjects such as government, ethics, equity vs. equality, free-will, and love.   read more about SWHS Student Awarded Semifinalist in Essay Contest

Mr. Bill White has been appointed by Commissioner Pruitt to fill the vacated board seat of Precinct IV of the Pulaski County Educational Division. He will serve an interim term until the 2018 general election. Mr. White is no stranger to Pulaski County Schools. He was board member for two consecutive terms from 2003 through 2010. #iLearnPulaski Day 1 - Eclipse Day

Due to the eclipse, Pulaski County Schools will have an #iLearnPulaski Day on Monday, August 21st. Students will not report to school on that day but will need to complete the assignments for #iLearnPulaski Day 1. NMS Students Travel to Washington, D. C.

Eighteen Pulaski County students, who completed eighth grade at Northern Middle School during the 2016-17 school year, were selected to travel to Washington D.C., along with NMS Social Studies teachers, Jessica Wheeler and Zach Smith. This opportunity was funded through a federal grant received by KEDC (Kentucky Educational Development Corporation). In total, there were 45 Kentucky students and 5 Kentucky educators invited to participate in this experiential learning trip. Solar Eclipse Safety: American Optometric Association Encourages Safe and Fun Viewing of August Eclipse

On August 21, a total solar eclipse will touch the U.S. mainland for the first time since 1979, following a path that crosses the country from Salem, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina. Tens of millions of people who live within a 70-mile radius of its cross-country track will witness the eclipse in totality (the sun completely blocked by the moon) while millions of others outside of it will enjoy a partial eclipse. PCHS Future Problem Solving Team

The Pulaski County High School Future Problem Solving team represented the state of Kentucky at the Future Problem Solving International Conference held at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse in LaCrosse, WI on June 7-11. Students competed in Global Issues Problem Solving, Community Problem Solving, and Scenario Writing. The students qualified for this competition by winning titles at KAAC State Governor's Cup in March.
