Sharon Silvers First Grade “Soldiers” at Pulaski Elementary were honored to welcome home MSgt Darion Ping with a reception as he visited their classroom recently. He talked to the students about his job as a military police officer with the United States Air Force, his work at Andrews Air Force Base, and career travels around the world. He also talked to the students about patriotism and the importance of the American Flag, to include the pledge of the allegiance.

This year the class has adopted the theme Mrs. Silvers’ Soldiers. They have invited military personnel from all the branches of the Armed Forces. Service men and women will visit with the first grade class throughout the school year and share the importance of their jobs as they serve our country to protect the freedom we are all so grateful for. They are teaching the students what the Air Force calls Core Values (Integrity first, Service before self and Excellence in all we do), as they also want students to understand the true meaning of our flag and dedication to our country. The class is decorated in a military theme and has adopted an Army soldier through the Lake Cumberland Blue Star Mothers, which is currently deployed overseas fighting the war on terrorism. Ms. Silvers’ class sends care packages to their soldier each month. Ms. Silvers’ first grade class would like to salute all of our men and women in the military and God Speed in all their endeavors!
