Pulaski County Schools Attendance and Release Information
For the protection of your child, all Pulaski County Schools have strict student release policies. Parents or guardians must come to the school to pick a child up for early dismissal. You will be asked for identification before the student is allowed to leave. If both parents have custodial control, both parents will have equal access to any information regarding a student and will have the right to release of the student to their care unless the school has been informed and given evidence of a court order. Parents may give other adults (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.) permission to check out a student; however, appropriate forms and release statements must be signed by the parent and must be on file at the individual schools before a child will be released.
Students are required to attend regularly and punctually the school in which they are enrolled. If a child is not in class, then they are not learning. Any student who is absent from school without a valid excuse for three or more days or tardy without a valid excuse on two or more days is truant. A student who is reported truant three or more times is a habitual truant. Suspensions shall be considered unexcused absences. Students should bring a note signed by the parent or physician to their school. The principal or the principal’s designee determines whether or not the absence is excused. Make-up work shall be permitted for excused absences or tardies only. Students are responsible for making arrangements with their teachers for all worked missed. The district wide attendance policy limits parent notes to five per semester.
Pulaski County Schools make every effort to contact parents when the school is not aware of the reason for absences. Please contact your child’s school when they are absent or for more information on student release or attendance policies. Make sure you know your child’s attendance policy as each school may establish their own guidelines in addition to the guidelines presented here.
