PBIS on the Bus

Pulaski County Schools began implementing Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) on the bus during the 2010-11 school year.  This included developing a common set of behavioral expectations for all buses, a system to teach those expectations to all students and systems to encourage compliance with the expectations.  This page has resources related to implementation of these PBIS strategies on the bus. Our data from incidents of bus referrals looks promising so far!  We had a 23% reduction in total bus referrals across the district during our first year.  We had a slight increase from our first year to second year, but maintained a decrease from our baseline year.  Great job drivers, teachers and all those who helped with implementing PBIS on the bus!!!

The way to be on the bus in Pulaski County is to...
Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible

In 2014 the Pulaski County Schools Transportation Department participated in the development of a video series designed to promote PBIS in schools and on the bus.  The video can be accessed by clicking on the image below:

Other PBIS videos in this series can be found here.

Bus Data

During the 2015-16 school year, some of our PBIS Schools began a targeted program to support appropriate bus behavior.   Buses competed to see which buses could go the longest without receiving discipline referrals.  Each week that a bus went without receiving a discipline referral, it was noted on their bus poster.  When their bus will "filled with good behavior" that group of students were rewarded!

Southern Elementary hosted the District PBIS Coach's Meeting in January of 2012.  During this meeting data was shared about discipline issues on the bus, and schools shared strategies and initiatives related to improving student behavior on the bus.  Southern Elementary has posted new bus expectation signs in their bus loading/unloading zone.  Pictures are below:
