Mr. Smith receiving a grant from KASC
Teresa Nicholas

Congratulations to Zach Smith, Counselor at Pulaski Elementary School.  He was awarded a Social Emotional Learning grant from the KY Association of Schools Counselors.  Grants were awarded for the purpose of creating calming and self-regulation areas within the school building for students to have access to. Mr. Smith applied for this competitive grant with the idea to create a "mobile" calming unit where students have access throughout the school day without having to come to the front office. This space will have books and resources for learning self-regulation strategies as well as sensory items that are useful in grounding techniques and coping skills.

Congratulations to Zach Smith, Counselor at Pulaski Elementary School.  He was awarded a Social Emotional Learning grant from the KY Association of Schools Counselors.  Each year, the Kentucky School Counselor Association awards five SEL grants to school counselors for them to use as part of their school counseling programs. This year, the grants were awarded for the purpose of creating calming and self-regulation areas within the school building for students to have access to. Mr. Smith applied for this competitive grant with the idea to create a "mobile" calming unit where students have access throughout the school day without having to come to the front office. This space will have books and resources for learning self-regulation strategies as well as sensory items that are useful in grounding techniques and coping skills. Students need opportunities to be able to manage and regulate emotions. As part of Pulaski Elementary School's social and emotional learning implementation, students are regularly taught strategies to help them learn coping skills. Research has shown that students who are social and emotionally well, are better learners and can be more successful in social situations.
