The Pulaski County School District is celebrating its remarkable performance with the recent release of state testing results. Superintendent Patrick Richardson noted, “All of our schools are among the highest-scoring in the state. Our whole community has so much to be proud of. Our students are learning well, working hard, and putting forth greater effort in their studies and on these important tests that tell us all how we’re doing as a school system. We have considerable support from parents and families, which makes a big difference. And I am especially grateful for our teachers and staff, who are dedicated to instructing, leading, and motivating our students, and who are too often underappreciated in our current political and social climate. Our teachers and staff are among the best in Kentucky.”
The Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) was administered in May, and scores for every public school in the state are now available to the public. Here’s how Pulaski County Schools stacked up against other districts:
--Elementary Schools: Top 6% – Ranked #11 of 182 districts
--Middle Schools: Top 13% – Ranked #23 of 182 districts
--High Schools: Top 12% – Ranked #22 of 178 districts

The state assigns a color rating to individual schools based on their KSA scores, and all of Pulaski County Schools performed in the top two tiers. Achieving blue (top) status: Burnside Elementary, Nancy Elementary, Northern Elementary, Oak Hill Elementary, Pulaski Elementary, and Pulaski County High School. Achieving green status: Eubank Elementary, Shopville Elementary, Southern Elementary, Northern Middle, Southern Middle, and Southwestern High.
“District and school leaders have met to analyze and discuss KSA scores, identifying areas for celebration and areas to target for growth. Teachers have access to the data as well, and use it to determine the individual academic needs of their students,” Added Richardson.
The KSA measures student performance in reading, mathematics, science, social studies, editing and mechanics, and on-demand writing. The accountability system also holds schools accountable for the English language proficiency of English learners, the quality of school climate and safety, and postsecondary readiness and graduation rates at high schools, as well as data related to subpopulations within schools.
